About
Located in the heart of Kernersville, North Carolina, Doss' Old Fashion Ice Cream offers a nostalgic dive into classic American fare with a warm, family-owned charm. From the moment you step inside, the whimsical and clean atmosphere invites you to slow down and savor simple, hearty dishes crafted with care. The staff here, including Mr. Doss himself, deliver genuine hospitality that complements the timeless menu.
The highlight at Doss' is undoubtedly their menu staples — the toasted foot-long hot dogs, topped generously with their flavorful chili and melted cheese, offer a satisfying crunch and warmth that truly define "old-fashioned" comfort food. Their burgers come highly recommended, boasting fresh, hot patties that pair perfectly with soft, crispy fries. I found the fries to have that ideal balance—fluffy on the inside and wonderfully crisp outside—making each bite memorable.
What truly elevates the experience is the ice cream. A broad selection of flavors, served in generous scoops, makes it a perfect indulgence after a savory meal. The double scoop option is notoriously generous and a treat you shouldn’t miss. While the pricing leans towards the higher side, the quality, portion sizes, and friendly environment make it worth your while.
This gem keeps its classic American spirit alive through consistent quality and a menu that caters to every craving—from burgers and hot dogs to chuck wagon sandwiches and, of course, their signature ice cream. Locals celebrate not just the food but the clean, family-oriented space and attentive crew that make every visit welcoming. Whether you’re seeking a quick lunch or a nostalgic dinner spot, Doss' Old Fashion Ice Cream serves soulful comfort food with a side of heartfelt hospitality.
“ Food was pretty good, I may have ordered the wrong thing. It wasn't bad, but didn't feel like the best value for the money. I paid about $45 for lunch for two of us with milkshakes. Staff was friendly and helpful. Environment was whimsical and clean. Food was delivered hot and quickly. I would go back and probably try the burger next time. ”
“ Doss’ has always been a local, family owned gem that you can count on. Great staff, great menu and consistent food! Have never had a bad experience and it’s very family oriented as well! They are always keeping it clean also! Highly recommend if you are looking for anything from burgers, hot dogs, ice cream to chuck wagon sandwiches! Classic American food in a classic American setting! ”
“ It's a nice little cozy place. Very clean. Fast service. They have hot dogs, burgers and ice-cream just to name a few items. It's definitely on the pricey side. Purchased two foot long hotdogs with chilli and cheese meals, it was $36 or $37. Will try some of the ice cream next time. ”
“ Truly exceptional hospitality here! Mr. Doss (who personally took my order) & his employees were all very kind to me and provided wonderful, fast service. They've got those old fashioned red hot dogs and they serve them hot on a toasted bun. The french fries are soft and fluffy on the inside but super crunchy and crisp on the outside. Very yummy food! Also, beware of the double scoop ice cream - it's HUGE! I eventually gave up on trying to finish it after working on it for 50 minutes... no joke I get the impression that lots of love, dedication, and hard work is put into keeping this restaurant clean and equipped with all modern amenities while keeping its "vintage" sort of charm. Anyway, my favorite thing about this place is how welcoming and kind the people and atmosphere are. I will definitely be coming back! ”
“ Great old fashioned atmosphere. Crew are fantastic. Clean restrooms. Ice is great. Burger fried and hotdogs are okay but definitely not bad. They can get pretty busy after 5pm so we came in during mid day. Everyone local should come check them out. ”
